Documentation

formset is a form builder you use by talking to your AI assistant. This page covers connecting it, what to ask, and what happens behind each request.

1. What formset does

You describe a form in a conversation. formset builds it, hosts it at a public link, collects the answers, and reads them back to you when you ask. There is no visual editor and no dashboard: creating, changing, sharing and reading a form all happen in the conversation you were already having.

Respondents fill in a plain, single-column form in their browser. They need no account and nothing to install.

2. Connect it

formset is a remote MCP server at this address:

https://mcp.getformset.com/mcp

Claude (web and desktop). Open formset in Claude’s connector directory, select Connect to Claude, sign in with Google, and select Allow. The home page has a step-by-step guide with screenshots. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner selects Connect for your team once, and members then select Connect to Claude.

Claude Code. If you connected formset in Claude, it is already available in Claude Code when you sign in with the same Claude account. Otherwise run the command below, then type /mcp in Claude Code to sign in:

claude mcp add --transport http formset https://mcp.getformset.com/mcp

ChatGPT. On a paid plan, open Plugins, select Add, then Create custom MCP server. If that option is missing, turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT’s Settings first; on Business and Enterprise accounts a workspace admin may need to allow custom servers. Name it formset, paste the address above under Connection, leave Authentication on OAuth, tick I understand and want to continue, and select Create as a plugin. On the Connect formset screen select Continue to formset, sign in with Google, and select Allow. In a new chat, select + then formset.

Other assistants. Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in, such as the Codex CLI, can connect with the same address.

3. Signing in

The first time your assistant connects, a browser window opens. You sign in with Google, then approve the assistant on a formset screen that names it and shows the address your sign-in returns to. That happens once; after that your assistant stays connected.

Google is the only way to sign in, and there is no password. formset asks Google only for your email address, name and profile picture, so it cannot reach your Gmail, Drive, Calendar or Contacts.

4. What you can ask

Talk the way you normally would. For example:

  • "Make a signup form for Thursday's workshop with name, email and which session they want."
  • "Add a 1 to 5 rating for how useful the last session was."
  • "Give me a QR code for the RSVP form so I can put it on a poster."
  • "How did the signups split between the two sessions?"
  • "What did people say in the feedback box?"
  • "Send me all the responses as a spreadsheet."
  • "Close the workshop form, we're full."

Your assistant picks the right tool for each request. Destructive actions, such as deleting a form and its answers, ask you to confirm first.

5. Tools

These are the tools formset gives your assistant. Read tools change nothing. Write tools change your forms. update_form can overwrite a form and remove questions, but only delete_form removes answers people have sent.

ToolWhat it does
create_formWrite. Creates a hosted form and returns its public link.
update_formWrite, destructive. Changes a form's title, description, questions or settings. Answers already collected keep their meaning.
set_form_statusWrite. Opens or closes a form, or returns it to draft. Closing keeps every answer and can be undone.
delete_formWrite, destructive. Deletes a form and every answer to it. Requires explicit confirmation. The form disappears at once and is permanently erased 30 days later; until then you can write to support to get it back.
list_formsRead. Lists your forms, newest first.
get_formRead. Shows one form in full: every question, its settings and its public link.
list_responsesRead. Shows individual answers, with filters, a page at a time.
get_response_statsRead. Counts, distributions and averages for every question on a form.
export_responsesRead. A download link for every answer as CSV, or JSON on Pro. The link works for one hour.
get_share_linksRead. The public link, a QR code, an embed snippet for your own site, and a read-only results page that lasts 30 days.
get_banner_upload_linkRead. A link you open in a browser to add, replace or remove the picture at the top of a form. The link works for one hour.
searchRead. Searches your form titles, questions and answers.
fetchRead. Opens a search result in full.
pingRead. Checks that formset is reachable and you are signed in.

6. Question types

Short text, long text, email, URL, phone, number, single choice, multiple choice, date, rating and yes/no. formset validates each answer against its type before it is saved, so an email question only accepts an email address. A form can have up to 100 questions.

7. Sharing a form

Every form has a public link at getformset.com/f/…. Ask your assistant for a QR code, an embed snippet to put the form inside a page you already have, or a read-only results page to show someone who is not in your conversation. A results page shows the latest 200 answers and its link works for 30 days. Anyone with that link can see the results without signing in, so share it as carefully as the answers themselves.

8. Plans and limits

  • Free: unlimited forms, unlimited answers within fair use, answers kept for 12 months, CSV export.
  • Pro: everything in Free, plus no formset mark on your forms, your own colours, answers kept as long as you want, and JSON export. See pricing.
  • Your first day: to slow down abuse, an account less than 24 hours old can create two forms, each taking up to 25 answers. The limit lifts by itself after the first day.

9. Your data

formset makes no AI model calls of its own and never sends your forms or answers to a model. Every query is scoped to your account in the database, so no one else's assistant can reach your forms. The privacy policy covers what is stored, who processes it and how long it is kept.

10. Troubleshooting

  • Sign-in fails or the window closes early. Disconnect formset in your assistant's connector settings, connect it again, and complete the Google sign-in in the window that opens.
  • Your assistant says it is not signed in. Ask it to run ping. If ping fails, reconnect as above.
  • A download or banner link has stopped working. Both expire after an hour. Ask for a new one.
  • To disconnect completely, remove the connector in your assistant, and revoke formset at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

11. Support

Write to hello@getformset.com. Include the form's link if your question is about a particular form, but please do not paste respondents' answers into email.
